The Tribune – Forty rape cases reported in Panjab every month

Ludhiana, December 28. Ten women are being raped in the state every week and 40 women every month. According to information obtained under the RTI Act, as many as 4,974 rape cases have been registered in the past 10 years (2002 to 2012).

Investigations in 251 rape cases is still pending while in 309 cases the accused could not be traced and 479 cases were cancelled. This information was given to Karandeep Singh Kairon, president, People for Literacy who filed an RTI petition on August 11, seeking details of rape cases.
