Sikh Channel Presenter
Pritpal Singh interviewing Bobby Singh Bansal – Maker of the Sikhs in Kabul (Afghanistan) documentary.

This LIVE discussion programme with the film-maker was held immediately after the documentary was aired on Sikh Channel (Sky 840) on Monday, 3rd June 2012 at 19.40 GMT.

Watch the full talk show discussing the condition of Sikhs in Kabul

Pritpal Singh and Bobby Singh Bansal

Documentary focuses on the Sikh community of Afghanistan that have dwindled from 80,000 to a mere 1000 as of 2012. The proud Afghan Sikhs have been a part of the culture and heritage of Afghanistan ever since the founder of Sikhism Guru Nanak Dev Ji visited Kabul on his return from Baghdad and Mecca to India in the 16th century.

This film has captured the testimonies of the surviving Sikh families of Kabul who live in appalling conditions within their damaged Gurdwaré (Sikh place of worship) where 2 families are confined to a room. Since the American invasion of 2001 numerous wealthy Sikhs fled in haste to Pakistan and Europe, but some unable to flee were stranded and today their dilemma is worse than ever.

Het eerste deel van het programma is in het Engels, het tweede deel is in het Nederlands. Gelieve deze informatie met iedereen in Nederland & België te delen en zet het op uw Facebook wall.

I went to the UK for three reasons. The first one is that I am starting to prepare myself for my return to the UK in the summer of next year, after the Olympics are over and done with. On Friday I will attend a London Region meeting of the fbfe (for more info http://www.fbfe.org.uk/ ) with whom I have worked before I went to Belgium. Today I visited the Slough Equalities Council and the STAIS translation and interpretation service. I have both been employed and worked as freelancer for these organisations.

The second reason is to meet some of my good London friends, especially my brother Amrik Singh (Airport) and his family.

The third, equally important reason is to go to either of the Southall Singh Sabha Gurdwaras and listen to the beautiful kirtan !

And of course you must all watch and listen to Sikh Channel at 10.00 pm BST on Thursday 17 November.

25 September Brussel Turban Awareness Day

Sadh Sangat Jio,

Our small-scale walk through Brussels visiting the Flemish, Belgian Federal and European parliament has been advertised by others as a big international demonstration, for which nobody has got permission from the Belgian authorities.

Because of this ‘Sikhs in Belgium’ and the Sangat Sahib Gurdwara at Halmaal Sint-Truiden have been forced to decide to cancel this event, and have notified the other Gurdwaras in this country of their decision.

We would strongly advise all Sikhs, whether in Belgium or outside it, not to come to Brussel for this demonstration on Sunday, as this will only give the Sikhs a bad reputation in this country.

If there is any further news I will update on my blog.

Gurfateh,

Harjinder Singh
