S Randhawa was key witness in S Jaswant Singh Khalra murder case
Patiala, Panjab, 24 January 2017. In a huge blow to the ruling Akali Dal Government, several of its appointed senior Punjab police officials have been fined by a Patiala court for registration of fake cases.
Namely, five Police cops include ex-ADGP Rajinder Singh, Inspector General Paramraj Umranangal, Inspector Shamsher Guddu, Sarabjit Singh Cheema and Jaipal Singh who have been fined Rs 7,00,000 each.
These individuals were responsible for registering a fake rape case against S Kirpal Singh Randhawa. Kirpal Singh Randhawa was a witness in the abduction and murder case of renowned human rights activist S Jaswant Singh Khalra. The Police had framed S Randhawa in a fake rape case under sections 376 and 506 of Indian Penal Code.
In 2007, S Kirpal Singh Randhawa was acquitted by the Court but the prosecution had moved a plea in Punjab & Haryana High Court which was also rejected.
S Kirpal Singh Randhawa at that time had moved a defamation case against these Police cops who framed him in a fake rape case.
In a historical verdict on January 22, the Patiala Court ordered the alleged Police cops to pay him Rs. 49 lakh, along with the fine.
