The News – Pakistan crash out of Hockey World Cup after Belgium loss

Bhubaneswar – Odisha – India, 11 December 2018. Belgium thrashed Pakistan 5-0 to qualify for the quarter-final of the Hockey World Cup being held in Indian city of Bhubaneswar.

The men in green made an early exit from the World Cup without registering a single win in the tournament.

Their only point came when they held on to a 1-1 draw against Malaysia. They were beaten by Germany and Netherlands.

Belgium, on the other hand, triumphed in their opening game to Canada, 5-1 against South Africa and were held 2-2 against India.

Pakistan and Belgium last played against each other twice in the World Cup, with Pakistan winning both the times, 2-0 in 1973 and 3-2 in 2002.

Belgium will now play Germany in the quarter-final.

Jalandhar – Panjab – India, 09 December 2018. The leader of Canada’s National Democratic Party (NDP) Jagmeet Singh, the first person of a visible minority group to lead a Canadian federal political party, and his party has kicked off the party’s poll campaign for the British Columbia’s Burnaby South by-election and the 43rd Canadian federal polls.

The NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh addressed his party workers gathered from across the country in the capital Ottawa last week. Alleging that a large number of Canadians were distressed and felt that they had voted for something else (Liberals) the stylish ‘poster boy’ of Canadian magazines and publications, Jagmeet said Canadians did not get what they had voted for and that they deserved something better (NDP).

All eyes are on Jagmeet and whether he manages to win the byelection or not? If he manages to put up a good show, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was expected to lose his voters with left leanings and even his government. In any case, Jagmeet Singh or Jimmy Dhaliwal holds the key whether Trudeau will stage his comeback or not.

The Express Tribune – Place of worship: Lease of Gurdwara land challenged

Peshawar – Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa – Pakistan, 11 December 2018. The representatives of the Sikh community in Peshawar have filed a writ petition against leasing of the land of the Bhai Biba Singh Gurdwara.

The counsel for the petitioners have made the federal and provincial governments and Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) respondents. Sahib Singh and Sikh community filed the plea with facilitation of Sanaullah and Taimur Advocates.

Plaintiff has observed that Gurdwara Bhai Biba Singh is a religious place and Constitution of Pakistan gives the community right to practice their faith freely, protection of minorities’ holy places is government’s responsibility.

However ETPB has leased 16 marlas of Bhai Biba Singh Gurdwara land which is an unconstitutional act. He has requested the court to annul the lease of Gurdwara land.

The Hindu – Hindi heartland defeat: Narendra Modi says BJP accepts people’s mandate with humility

Prime Minister congratulates the Congress, the TRS and the MNF.

New Delhi – India, 11 December 2018. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Congress for its victory in Assembly polls on December 11 and said the BJP, which has suffered reverses in the elections, accepts people’s mandate with humility.

In a tweet, Mr Modi also congratulated Telangana Chief Minister K C Rao for his party’s landslide win in the State and the Mizo National Front for its victory in Mizoram.

With the BJP suffering setbacks in its strongholds, Mr Modi sought to boost the morale of its workers, saying they worked day and night and that he saluted their hard work.

“Victory and defeat are an integral part of life. Today’s results will further our resolve to serve people and work even harder for the development of India,” Mr. Modi said.

Five-State Assembly Elections

In another tweet, he said, “Congratulations to the Congress for their victories. Congratulations to KCR garu for the thumping win in Telangana and to the Mizo National Front (MNF) for their impressive victory in Mizoram.”

The Prime Minister thanked the people of Hindi heartland States of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan for giving the BJP the opportunity to serve. “The BJP governments in these States worked tirelessly for the welfare of the people,” Mr. Modi said.
