– Giani Gurbachan Singh resigns, Seeks apology for pardoning Gurmeet Ram Rahim

Chandigarh – Panjab – India, 19 October 2018. Amid day by day intensifying crisis in the SAD (Badal) leadership, the SGPC appointed Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh has resigned from temporal post of Sikhism.

Interestingly, he has also sought an apology from the Sikh community for granting an unasked pardon to Sirsa cult chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim.

Giani Gurbachan Singh’s resignation came suddenly during the evening hours of October 18 despite the fact that he had been negated speculations of his resignation on October 17 as well as during the morning hours of October 18.

Shedding light on the positive achievements of Sikh community during his tenure, Giani Gurbachan Singh has sought apology from the Sikh community for exonerating Sirsa cult chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim in blasphemy charges.

In resignation, Giani Gurbachan Singh has cited weakening health as a reason behind his resignation. He has appealed the SGPC executive committee to appoint an eligible person in his place.

Giani Gurbachan Singh and his personal assistant Satinderpal Singh (who sent a press note regarding resignation) went unreachable immediately after making public the resignation.

However, the SGPC’s secretary and spokesperson Diljit Singh Bedi didn’t confirm receiving of Giani Gurbachan Singh’s resignation. “As and when we receive it, we will take the move accordingly. Amritsar – Panjab – India, 10 August 2018. Upset over the rising attacks on Sikhs in India, the SGPC appointed Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh today said that it seems like the Sikhs are not enjoying freedom in India.

Citing the recent incidents of subjecting the Sikhs to religious discrimination, he added that the Sikhs are being tortured in all of India.

“Sikhs are being forced to evict from their houses, remove their articles of religious faith to appear in the examinations and assaulted by the Police in the broad day light” said Giani Gurbachan Singh while adding that the circumstances are not favorable for Sikhs in India.

Taking on the Indian government for not making appropriate arrangements to ensure security of the Sikhs in India, Giani Gurbachan Singh said that India is a multi-religion country and India ought to ensure safety of all the communities residing in India so that no Sikh in this country would have to endure discrimination due to his / her religion.

He said that the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) and other Sikh bodies should also spread awareness on the Sikhism through literature and other means such as internet and electronic media. – Chief Khalsa Diwan’s internal issues taken to Akal Takht; prominent member alleges voting anomalies

Chief Khalsa Diwan’s member Rajmohinder Singh Majitha, who was defeated by Dr Santokh Singh in by-poll for presidency of Chief Khalsa Diwan, on April 3 submitted a memorandum to the SGPC appointed Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh seeking cancellation of CKD’s by-poll held on March 25.

He accused that his rival faction used inappropriate tactics like voting by apostate members to win the election.

S Rajmohinder Singh Majitha also apprised Giani Gurbachan Singh about voting by 70 CKD members who didn’t attend 12 CKD meeting continuously and deserved suspension from CKD’s basic membership.

S Rajmohinder Singh Majitha was accompanied by the his 11 accomplices including S Nirmal Singh, Honorary Secretary S Surinder Singh Rumalian Wale, Professor Hari Singh, S Swinder Singh Kathunangal, Dr Jaswinder Singh Dhillon, S Jatinder Singh Bhatia, Bhai Ajaib Singh Abhiasi.
